Welcome to the first installment of Tales from the Arcana, a serialized, prose story set in the MotA multiverse. Each installment is inspired in some way by a specific tarot card. I post which card will inspire an installment two weeks in advance so readers have time to comment and add their own thoughts if they so choose. Then, every weekend, I'll be posting a new addition to the story. The installment will stay on the front page through the weekend and then, on Monday, be moved to the Extras section of the website.

So, please, enjoy!

New Post: Welcome to Mysteries of the Arcana

http://mysteriesofthearcana.com/index.php?action=journal&id=174&memid=0

Some of you might be relatively new to Mysteries of the Arcana. Welcome! Thank you for reading the webcomic. Keith and I hope you enjoy it and continue to do so into the future. Here's a small orientation to the webcomic and it's community. BTW, unless it is said otherwise, you can always assume the person doing the talking in this space is J (the writer) and not Keith.

Mysteries of the Arcana updates every Monday and Thursday. This is pretty much without fail. Every 25-30 pages or so we take a week long break between "issues" (25-30 being the length of your average comic book, these days). When that happens we try to have something interesting to show you every day, not just on Monday and Thursday. We're coming up on the end of this storyline and there'll be a two week break between this one and the next.

You can follow Mysteries of the Arcana on Twitter (http://twitter.com/JGrayWebcomic) and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mysteries-of-the-Arcana/). You can ask questions about Mysteries of the Arcana at our Formspring account (http://www.formspring.me/JGrayWebcomic) and visit our forum (http://community.910cmx.com/).

There are currently two companion projects for Mysteries of the Arcana. The first, Order of the Arcana, is a parody strip done in the visual style of Order of the Stick. It normally runs Monday through Friday as vote incentive, encouraging folks to remember to vote for us over at topwebcomics.com). Order of the Arcana's on a break right now and will be back next week. I occasionally compile Order of the Arcana and post old ones on our Facebook page. You don't need to have a Facebook account to see them.

The second companion project is Tales from the Arcana, a serialized prose story that will begin this Sunday and be posted every Sunday. Each installment is inspired by a different tarot card. I'll be posting tarot cards two weeks in advance to allow everyone to offer their own interpretations.

If you visit the Extras section of the website you can find wallpapers as well as a few extra comics, including some notes by Kludge on other arcana and Keith's comedic anniversary story. Our Galleries section has interesting art by Keith and friends of Mysteries of the Arcana.

We do accept donations. Anyone who donates gets an exclusive wallpaper which changes each month. Also, at the end of each month, a name is picked from all those people who donated. The person picked gets a free, full-color commission from Keith! The donate button's up next to the comic. The money goes directly to the costs of the comic. Right now, it costs us a bit over $80 a month to produce Mysteries of the Arcana.

Please, feel free to talk to us. About the comic. About life. About whatever. You can post in the shoutbox, on the forums, or the comment section of the blog. The shoutbox and the blog don't require registration. The forum does.

That's all for now. Thank you for reading Mysteries of the Arcana! Stick with us. She's only gonna get better!

I apologize for the lack of vote incentive updates this weekend. I'm going to take a week off from Order of the Arcana while I focus on the serialized storyline I'm working on. In the meantime, I'm going to offer some visual hints as to what's coming up in the next MotA storyline, which will follow not so long after the end of More Heavens and Earths.

Speaking of the serialized story...

I'm on track to premiere Tales of the Arcana, a series of serialized, prose stories set in the MotA universe. Each part will be influenced by a tarot card. I've already posted, and gotten comment, on the first card, the 4 of Swords. I'm posting the second card in the series today, the King of Pentacles/Coins. The story itself will debut next Sunday.

Please, offer your interpretations of the card. What does the picture suggest. How does it make you feel? I'm taking into account not just my thoughts but any thoughts you'd like to share as I write.

Yamino of Sister Claire did a cute Valentine's Day comic that guest starred characters from Sinfest, Menage a 3, Girls with Slingshots, Yu+Me=Dream, Wonderella, and Mysteries of the Arcana! Check it out by clicking on the link below.

http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic/happy-valentines-day-2/

I was flabergasted by the sheer number of replies to my last blog entry. Since ya'll took the time to reply, I want to take the time to reply to each of you. So, here goes.

Kevin Keyser: Thank you. A lot of thought goes into both the art and the writing of Mysteries of the Arcana.

Theron Gibbons: I've tried hard to make MotA rich in tarot symbolism without making it too obscure. I don't think I quite reach the level of one of Alan Moore or Neil Gamain's more esoteric works but I hope I do well.

Rachel: MotA wouldn't be as good as it is today without your encouragement.

Weert: You're one of our most vocal readers and I appreciate it. Plus, we have similar loves when it comes to video games.

Kaden: Thank you for reading. Being quiet's a great way to be. Quiet people often notice more.

Sandra: This is partly a romance. It'll take a while to develop so stick with us!

Crys: Thank you! I hope we reach the potential you see in us.

Uno que va: Wow. 300 webcomics? And we're in your top 20? That's very flattering, especially since I bet there's some real heavies in there.

Gunsolo: Eventually, we'll see a lot more of Mandrake. I promise.

Tani: At least I was close with one of you! :)

Shadowydreamer: I like your webcomic! Its like the old one liners Garfield used to give. Back when he was funnier.

Mitaukano: I enjoy Eternity Dreams. I really like the header. It has a wonderful graphic quality to it.

Felix: I've run into your list before, when I was doing a general google search on MotA. Very cool! Thank you.

Nickan: Thank you! I'm trying to keep the mystical aspects of the tarot in mind as I write. I don't want this to be just another fantasy story with some tarot trappings.

Jrah: How old you feel is important. Of course, the Wii says I'm in my 70s...

Ari: You might want to check out Girly, too.

neojb1989: I like to think we're a little different than the other comics. Thank you for reading!

Thank ALL of you for reading. The fans of Mysteries of the Arcana are all my Valentines. :)

There are times when I wonder who the audience of Mysteries of the Arcana is. There's a lot of talk about that in publishing. Target audiences and all that. Certainly, I don't think MotA's audience is the typical webcomic audience. Not that a lot of you don't read other webcomics. What I mean is that you don't seem to be the sort of audience that you see hanging around other webcomics. I imagine you a bit quiet, often on the younger side (teens to mid twenties) with a majority of you being female. I've always suspected I work best writing for young adults.
